Teens in high school are placed in very sociable situation whether they are ready or not.  The educational aspect of the whole thing comes second to the idea that we are surrounded by people and everyone has an opinion.  Communication plays a heavy role in every part of the day-to-day workings of school, which is why the lack of communication can have such a drastic effect on people.  School is meant to be a safe place for people to learn and spend time with peers, but when everyone around you is against you, it’s not exactly easy to get up in the morning each day and show up.  Rather than act as an escape from potential problems at home, these problems are amplified which can lead to gruesome consequences as seen in massacres such as the one at Columbine.  For us at Bell specifically, the main problem for a majority of students is caused by money.  People can’t afford to pay bills, can’t afford school supplies, can’t afford a decent meal every day.  These are things that we shouldn’t have to deal with, but they end up being a simple fact of life after a while.  Often times the stresses from home carry over to other activities, and suddenly everything, every simple task, takes a huge effort.
